Trigger Point Release

What are Trigger Points?

Trigger points are localized muscle spasms that happen when a muscle remains tight or contracted for too long. Normal muscles tighten and relax throughout the day as you use them. A trigger point occurs when the muscle is unable to relax, which can lead to localized pain or referral pain to other areas of the body. Trigger points often mimic other conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, TMJ, and plantar fasciitis.

What can cause trigger points?

  • Stress
  • Poor posture
  • Poor flexibility
  • Injuries
  • Poor muscle strength
  • Overuse and repeated activities

How do I know if I have Trigger Points?

Trigger points are not visible on imaging tests (x-ray, MRI, etc.) and do not show up on blood tests. Most often, you will experience pain with pressure to the area and you may experience referring pain to other regions of the body when a trigger point is pressed.

Benefits of Trigger Point Injections

  • Decreased pain
  • Improved relaxation of the muscle
  • Improved movement
  • Improved sleep

Who Can Benefit?

Those with the following conditions may find relief with trigger point injections: back and neck pain, muscle pain, nerve pain, joint pain, headaches and migraines, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, TMJ, and many more. Call us to schedule an appointment with Naomi Watson PA-C today!

" For over 20 years I have dealt with migraines after a neck injury. I have been through various migraine treatments and doctors over the years and did not want another pill. There are so many options for migraine treatment but most of them take expensive testing or the treatment itself is expensive. At Patterson Physical Therapy I found my answer --trigger point injections. After my first one I nearly cried with relief. I could not remember when I was last able to easily relax my shoulders. Naomi explains everything and does not use steroids. She has also suggested other ways to increase my relief. While my migraines are not completely gone, I have fewer and they are less severe. All the staff have been courteous and genuinely concerned with my well-being. Beth and the staff really take the time to find the root of the problem and help you to get better."
